Pokemon Card Game ANA Special Pikachu Larvitar 004/P 005/P promo Nintendo 2001

This listing features the Pokemon Card Game ANA Special Pikachu and Larvitar promotional set, numbered 004/P and 005/P, released by Nintendo in 2001. Distributed through All Nippon Airways (ANA) as part of a special in-flight and airline-related promotion, these cards represent a unique intersection between Pokemon collecting and Japanese travel culture. Because they were only available through ANA channels for a limited period, they never entered general retail distribution, which is exactly why long-time collectors continue to seek them out more than two decades after their initial release.

The set includes two promotional cards drawn from the Pokemon franchise: Pikachu, the iconic mascot of the series, and Larvitar, the Rock/Ground-type Pokemon introduced in the second generation (Gold and Silver era). The promo numbering — 004/P for one card and 005/P for the other — places them within Japan's "P" promotional card series, a system used by Nintendo and later The Pokemon Company to catalog special-issue cards distributed outside of standard booster sets. Being dated 2001, these cards align with the height of the Neo-era Pokemon TCG in Japan, a period highly favored by vintage card collectors.

ANA promotional Pokemon items hold a specific place in collector circles because they were produced in cooperation with a major Japanese airline rather than sold in stores. This kind of tie-in promotion is characteristic of how Pokemon merchandise was distributed in Japan in the late 1990s and early 2000s, when regional exclusives, campaign giveaways, and corporate partnerships created a rich tapestry of hard-to-find items. Pre-owned Pokemon cards sourced directly from Japan are especially valued because they originate from the market where the franchise was created, and because Japanese print runs are widely regarded for their production quality. For collectors building a complete Japanese promo (P) run, or focusing on Pikachu variants and early Larvitar appearances, this ANA set is a notable piece.

As a pre-owned collectible, this item has been visually inspected before listing and will ship from Japan. Because it is a promotional card set from 2001, the original packaging (if included) and the cards themselves may show signs of age, storage, or light handling consistent with their years. We do not claim mint, gem mint, or factory-sealed condition unless specifically noted, and buyers should review the listing photos as the primary reference for the actual condition of the item being sold. Any wear, edge softness, or surface marks visible in the photos are part of what you will receive.

Displayed together, the Pikachu 004/P and Larvitar 005/P cards make a striking pair that captures a very specific moment in Pokemon history — a time when the franchise's expansion into everyday Japanese life meant that even airline passengers could receive exclusive TCG cards. Whether slabbed and graded, sleeved in a binder alongside other Japanese promos, or arranged in a display frame for a themed collection, this set offers both nostalgic and historical appeal. For fans of Pikachu variants, of the Johto region's pseudo-legendary Larvitar line, or of Japan-exclusive Pokemon promotions, it fills a category that is genuinely difficult to complete through normal channels.

This listing is offered by HD Toys Store Japan, shipping internationally from Japan.
