How to judge condition from photos

Four quick checks when buying pre-owned: (1) Fur texture — matted or flattened fur suggests the plush was hugged or displayed without rotation; (2) Tag intact — Japanese plush with original hang tags and sewn-in care labels are graded higher; (3) Stuffing even — lumps mean the plush was laundered without proper drying; (4) Eye alignment and stitching — asymmetric eyes or loose stitch lines indicate repair work.

Caring for vintage plush

Do not machine wash Japanese plush — the sewing is often tighter than Western equivalents and internal plastic pellets shift unpredictably. Surface-clean with a damp microfiber cloth and mild soap. Store in a cool, low-humidity space away from direct sunlight to prevent color fading. UV exposure is the main enemy of vintage plush dye.
