NEO GEO WAKU WAKU seven Fighting Retro Game NGH-225 software Hobby SNK 1996

Step into the golden age of arcade fighting with Waku Waku 7, a beloved SNK brawler released in 1996 for the Neo Geo platform. This listing is for the Japanese AES home cartridge release, identified by the product code NGH-225. Known for its bright anime-inspired art style, oversized sprites, and seven quirky playable characters each on a quest to collect the Waku Waku balls and have one wish granted, the game stands out as one of the more lighthearted and charming entries in SNK's legendary fighting game catalog. For collectors building a Neo Geo library, Waku Waku 7 remains a sought-after title thanks to its cult following and relative scarcity on original hardware.

This is the original SNK release from 1996, bearing the NGH-225 product identifier that confirms it as the Japanese AES (Advanced Entertainment System) home cartridge version rather than the arcade MVS board. The Neo Geo home cartridges are famously large and substantial compared to other consoles of the era, and Waku Waku 7 is no exception. As with other AES releases, the title was produced and published by SNK, the Osaka-based company whose Neo Geo platform defined premium home arcade experiences throughout the 1990s.

Within the broader SNK catalog, Waku Waku 7 occupies a special place. Unlike the studio's more serious fighters such as The King of Fighters, Fatal Fury, or Samurai Shodown, this title leans into a parody, cartoonish tone with characters like Rai, Arina, Tesse, Mauru, Dandy-J, Politank-Z, and the hidden boss Fernandeath. The game has aged into a connoisseur's pick, often cited alongside other overlooked Neo Geo gems. Because the AES cartridges were expensive at launch and produced in limited quantities compared to mainstream consoles, surviving Japanese copies are increasingly difficult to find in good condition, which has driven steady interest from retro game collectors worldwide. Importing directly from Japan also appeals to purists who prefer the original regional release with its Japanese packaging and documentation.

This copy is pre-owned and has been inspected before listing. As with any software approaching three decades of age, the packaging, inserts, and cartridge label may show signs of handling, shelf wear, minor scuffs, or age-related yellowing. We do not represent this item as sealed or mint unless explicitly stated. Please review all provided photos carefully, as they form part of the item description. The product ships from Japan with care taken in packing to protect the cartridge and any included materials during international transit.

On display, a Neo Geo AES cartridge is an immediate conversation piece. The oversized format dwarfs cartridges from contemporary consoles and looks striking on a shelf alongside other SNK titles or as a standalone showcase piece for fighting game fans. For players who own a working AES console, this is also a chance to experience Waku Waku 7 the way it was originally intended, with the full home version's loading-free play and crisp sprite work on original hardware. Whether you are completing a Neo Geo collection, chasing nostalgia for a title you first encountered in an arcade or on an emulator, or simply appreciate the artistry of 1990s Japanese arcade development, this release carries a character and presence that reproductions and digital re-releases cannot match.

Please note that Neo Geo AES software is region-free in terms of hardware compatibility between Japanese and Western AES consoles, though menus and in-game text in this release are presented in Japanese. Buyers using MVS-to-AES converters or other aftermarket solutions should confirm compatibility with their own setup.
