cowboy-bebop-laser-disc-vol-1-9-ld-set-spike-spiegel-1998-obintsc-bandai
Cowboy Bebop Laser Disc Vol. 1 - 9 LD Set Spike Spiegel 1998 OBINTSC Bandai

This listing features the Cowboy Bebop Laser Disc Vol. 1 – 9 LD Set, a complete nine-disc release spotlighting Spike Spiegel and the crew of the Bebop, originally issued in Japan in 1998 by Bandai. Cowboy Bebop needs little introduction among anime fans — Shinichiro Watanabe's genre-blending space western, scored by Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts, is widely regarded as one of the most influential anime series ever produced. For collectors who care about the physical history of the series, this Laser Disc set represents one of the earliest home video formats the show was ever released on, predating the widespread DVD rollout and now firmly established as a sought-after piece of anime memorabilia.

The set is the full nine-volume LD run of the series, released on the NTSC format for Japanese playback and presented with its original OBI strip — the thin paper band wrapped around Japanese releases that is often lost over time and that significantly affects collector value when preserved. The release carries the Bandai imprint and is dated to 1998, placing it squarely in the original broadcast and home video era of Cowboy Bebop in Japan. Being an NTSC Japanese pressing, playback requires a compatible Laser Disc player, and like all region-specific Japanese releases, the packaging and inserts are in Japanese.

Within the broader world of Cowboy Bebop collecting, the Laser Disc releases occupy a special niche. The LD format was effectively the premium home video format in Japan during the late 1990s, offering large-scale cover artwork and jacket designs that DVD and Blu-ray cases simply can't match in physical presence. Because production runs were comparatively limited and because many sets have been broken up or had their OBI strips discarded, complete nine-volume sets with original obi have become steadily harder to find in the pre-owned market. Japan has long been the primary source for these items, and buying directly from Japan is generally the most reliable way for overseas collectors to secure authentic, first-run Bandai pressings rather than reissues or incomplete lots.

This is a pre-owned item that has been inspected before listing and is shipped from Japan. As a release from 1998, the outer jackets, obi strips, and any inserts may show age-related wear such as light shelf rubbing, minor edge wear, or slight discoloration consistent with storage over the years. We do not represent this set as sealed or mint, and buyers should expect the honest condition of a vintage Japanese Laser Disc release rather than new-old-stock perfection. Any significant condition issues visible to us are reflected in the listing photos, which should be considered part of the description.

On display, a complete Cowboy Bebop LD set is genuinely striking. The oversized 12-inch jackets allow the cover illustrations of Spike, Jet, Faye, Ed, and Ein to be appreciated at a scale that modern formats cannot replicate, and lined up together on a shelf the nine volumes form a cohesive design run that reads as much as art object as home video. For fans who already own the series on DVD or Blu-ray, the Laser Disc set functions less as a day-to-day viewing copy and more as a centerpiece — the kind of item that anchors an anime collection or home theater wall and immediately signals a serious appreciation for the show's history.

Whether you are a long-time Cowboy Bebop fan looking to complete a collection of physical releases, a Laser Disc collector focused on landmark anime titles, or someone building a dedicated Spike Spiegel shrine, this 1998 Bandai nine-volume LD set with OBI is a meaningful addition. Shipped from Japan with care, it offers a direct connection to the original Japanese release of a series that continues to find new audiences more than two decades after it first aired.

This pre-owned item has been carefully inspected and is shipped directly from Japan with tracking.

Shipped from Japan with tracking number

Carefully inspected for authenticity and condition

Pre-owned condition documented with detailed photos

Secure packaging for international shipping

Condition: Pre-Owned

This item is also available on eBay.

Browse more Goods & Accessories from Japan:

View our Goods & Accessories collection →

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0724/9284/3077/files/s-l1600_767638ac-ae09-45a9-a4b5-16372f2910b2.jpg?v=1792603056
https://hdtoysjapan.com/sv/products/cowboy-bebop-laser-disc-vol-1-9-ld-set-spike-spiegel-1998-obintsc-bandai
